Universal City
Universal City began its life at the north gate of Randolph Field. It was named Universal City in hopes it would become the universal importance of the neighboring airfield. The town grew slowly until the late 1950s when the Headquarters Air Training Command moved from Illinois to Randolph. The influx of officers and enlisted resulted in numerous service members moving off base into Universal City. In 1960 it was officially incorporated into San Antonio.
In 1979, Universal City was the first town in Bexar County to have cable television service. Universal City is also home to Northeast Lakeview Community College. The community of Universal City hosts an annual Snowfest in February and a Veteran’s Day parade in November.
