San Antonio has a historic history in fighting for independence, with the fight for Mexican Independence in 1811 and for Texas Independence in 1835 occurring here, making the city a symbol of the battle for self-government. During the second half of the nineteenth century, San Antonio was the largest city in Texas and supported a diverse native and immigrant population, furthering its reputation as a crossroads of cultures.

Today San Antonio is the second largest city in the state of Texas and the seventh largest city in the entire United States. The city’s historic landmarks offer many opportunities to learn about the early Spanish colonial life in the southwest. San Antonio is still rich in culture today and you can experience all over the city, especially where it comes alive every weekend in Market Square. The city is also a huge attraction for tourists from all over the world, so you can always find something fun to do!

Population Growth: Between the 2010 U.S. census and the 2020 U.S. census, San Antonio has grown by more than 200,000 people. Today the city continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the country.
